I was dreaming.
I was tired and uninspired. My evening routine had fallen into a news cycle and a movie with hours of email and social media in between. I was absorbing culture, but I missed something deep inside. One day I realized the culture I was missing was the one that I create--the one that is birthed by doing something on your own without anybody telling you what to do or how. I decided to journal and draw a picture each night. Using a simple ink brush or pen, the drawing represented what I experienced in my mind during that day.
I continued this process of drawing and writing every night after work and soon realized how much I enjoyed it. Instead of unfulfilled nights in front of the TV, I was looking forward to my time in retrospect. Pictures grew larger. I added watercolors and crayons and oil pastels. Feedback from family and friends was encouraging and I made the commitment to write and draw and publish daily. After one year I had over 300 pieces that had grown larger and more complex. I learned much about my own creative process and how I experience life through work, and I gained insight for the many things I had overlooked. This collection of paintings offers a glimpse into the journey to recover creativity. It is called "Images of the Day."
